Balance your Blogging Schedule in the Summer

It’s almost officially summertime (at least in this part of the world), and I’m out of school and ready to spend a lot more time on my blog. Since I’m going to have all day long to manage Super Blogging for the next couple months, I won’t have much of a problem managing my schedule. But do YOU balance your time like you should?
A confession: I admit, I don’t create a new post each day, and that probably corrupts me. I need to be posting something new everyday. Because what happens if a blog isn’t updated often enough? Its loyal visitors might just think the blog isn’t as worthwhile after all. The time you spend online needs to be balanced properly, or you could be at risk too (unless you’re John Chow, that is).
Are you a time waster?: Like I said, I don’t create a new post everyday. That’s mainly because I waste the time I have to be on the internet. I use my time viewing other blogs on my topic, and touching up my blog. But what I really should be doing is writing fresh content. I’m not saying that if you view blogs on similar topics as yours that that’s a bad thing – actually, it’s great. But it shouldn’t be your top priority.
Work first, play second: Your visitors need new content to read, and so do the search engines. When you first get online, you need to write a post. If you already have an idea of what to write, that’s fantastic. If you don’t, spend no more than half an hour looking at other blogs for some inspiration. After you’ve got the day’s post up and out of the way, then you can browse other blogs more completely. And while you’re doing whatever else you need to do, people can be reading the new content you put up. The earlier you post it, the more people get to read it that day.
It’s not always easy to come up with an idea for a new post each day, but to be successful, that’s almost always what you’ve got to do. Every time I go without creating new content for the day, I’m making a grave mistake. Luckily, I enjoy blogging! If you’re going to blog, you need to like the topic you’re blogging about, or else it becomes more of a terrible chore that you just want to avoid, and that’ll get you nowhere.
Closing tip: If you know you’re going to be busy, or just want to spend the day doing other things, write what I like to call a “rainy day post”. Write an extra post or two ahead of time and have it saved in your drafts or on your computer. Then when there’s a day you have nothing to say, pull up the rainy day post and put it on your blog, and there will be fresh content to keep everyone pleased.
Keeping a blog updated can be hard, sometimes just downright frustrating. But if you chose a blogging topic that you love and if you balance your schedule right, it’ll be a hundred times easier.

Good poing, luckily there are 2 of us writing for our site so if one of us takes a day off then the other one usually fills it. It’s very rare that we miss a day.

i am so guilty of doing something else before posting. sometimes i get engrossed in reading other blogs, surfing, playing online games, watching movies/tv online or working on my get-paid-to sites more than writing a post. yeah drafting a ‘rainy day post’ is a great idea. =)
enjoy your summer tay, in this part of the world summer is almost over and classes will start in 2 weeks.

Aimee - That’s great that there are 2 authors on the blog. It would definitely make it much easier!
Mayenskie - I am guilty as well!! But I’m working on it.
And thanks, I’m sorry your summer is ending.
