Earnings and Statistics Update - May 4, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hey guys! This is my second earnings update, and the first was a while back - April 19. But my blog has grown some since then, I’m proud to announce, and my results will be coming soon! First though, let me announce some updates to the blog you may have not noticed and a few other things..

Blog Updates

  • You can now rate this blog 1-5 stars in the sidebar - 5’s are very appreciated!
  • You can contact me through form - I have an aweosome one that’s currently to your left and down.
  • I will be working on making an about me page, because someone was talking of me being anonymous and how this will do me no good… Currently though, I have a tiny picture and very-mini about me at the top of the right sidebar.
  • At the bottom of posts you can see links to email, subscribe, and add to your various sites and programs. Besides links, there are also the mini icons.
  • And of course you should check out my “Featured Posts” at the top of the right sidebar. It contains your must-reads. ;]

Exciting Happenings

I’m pleased to announce Super Blogging has a page rank of 2! And the higher the PR, the more money I can make from this blog. I’m hoping to keep working on my blog and hopefully the PR will grow with the next update.

Statistics with Rankings

  • Technorati: 208,286 (that’s 314,309 better than last update!) I’m pleased with this one even thought it’s not even that great of a rank - the lower the better. But hey, at least I’m not in the millions or anything. I’d just be happy being under 100,000.
  • Alexa: 1,748,090 … I don’t quite understand this. I know I’m getting traffic with my blog, I know it’s being viewed from people who have the Alexa toolbar, getting links, etc. So I don’t see why my score is so high. Why won’t it go down?

Earnings and money!! (my favorite part)

  • myLot: $11.56 … I think this is pretty good, considering I have such a fantastic time at myLot! It’s the most fun money-maker ever. And also, their minimum payout was $10.00 and I made it by the end of the month, so I should be getting the cash in my Paypal sometime!
  • SlashMySearch: $0.83 … I’m not even sure if this stupid site is worth it, but who knows! I’ve earned some referrals and now all I’m making is from them. I don’t even search or do anything anymore. But I’m not wasting my time, I’m just letting it build up… Hopefully it will amount to something eventually!
  • Google Adsense: $14.50 … Heck, I’m just getting started. I know I’ll never get rich with this but I hope I at least just reach payout for my first check, and I’ll be happy. I’ve just got to keep working hard!
  • Blogsvertise: $5.00? … I have not paid my payout yet because unfortunately, you get paid a whole month after writing the review which sucks. And I’ve been in for only a litte less than a month, and I’ve just gotten one review. Blogsvertise may be useless for me.
  • PayPerPost, ReviewMe: I have not yet done anything for these, thus not yet earned anything. But I’m signed up for both and approved by ReviewMe and I hope to get on with things soon!

Blogroll Sites to Check Out (these are blogs from my “Related Sites” column, randomly listed and recommended)

That’s about the end… I hoped you liked the new update, and I hope to keep improving all the time. Thanks and happy Friday!

Don’t Cram your Blog with Ads

I’ve seen all too many blogs stuffed to the brim with ads, including ads like Google Adsense, AdBrite, referral banners, links, and more. When I see a blog that has five or six banners in a row at the bottom or side of the page, aligned unevenly, it just makes me want to run away screaming. And what’s the point of even having those ads if nobody’s going to be looking at them, because of course people are going to move on to tidier, more organized blogs.

One thing is, some people just do the whole blogging thing with no interest put into it at all. All they want to do is hurry and get in the business, and start earning wads of cash (which causes ad overflow). Well, it doesn’t work that way. You need to have determination and you need to be in it for more than just the money. True, I blog for money - but I also love doing it because I enjoy it, and I’ve had many a website before that I hadn’t monetized at all. In fact, I just started monetizing blogs a couple months ago, and I’ve been making my own sites for a few years now.

If you’re going to earn money blogging, you’ve got to learn that to make money you, a) have to write some content and get people interested, and b) have to arrange your ideas in an organized, professional manner. Of course there’s more to it but that’s the main idea.

If you have five or six banners lined up unevenly, just sitting there, they’re not going to make you money. Instead, they’re going to drive your visitors away. No one wants to see that. Think about what programs are making you the most money, and which ones aren’t. Now remove all of the ones that are doing you no good, and then arrange the ads you have left so that they blend in and don’t disrupt your blog’s flow.

People hate ads and they’d much rather be reading your website’s content without seeing twelve of them - so limit your amount of ads and banners to two or three, and definitely no more than five. And make those ads blend in! Test spaces and see what ads work best where - but trust me, making a few more cents is not worth losing all of your visitors.

Rule of Blogging #1: Establish Relationships

From when I first started blogging up until a few days ago, I thought I could become a decently successful blogger and make a nice little sum of money all by myself, without making any contact with anyone. Boy, was I wrong!

I’d been reading on other blogs that if you wanted to be successful, you’d need to visit a lot of other people’s blogs and leave nice [non-spam] comments. That you’d need to actually establish some relationships. I’d always ignored that though. I didn’t really think it would make that much of a difference. But this weekend on Friday and Saturday I thought, well, it’s worth a shot. I might as well try it out.

And guess what. As of the time of writing this, my previous post has 14 comments. The most comments I’ve ever had on one post was probably 2. And I got so many comments because I commented on OTHER people’s blogs and participated on OTHER people’s events. And when I signed my comments on those other blogs, I would sign it ‘~Tay at Super Blogging’, and make that link to my blog.

And then the comments rolled in, including people wanting me to favorite them on Technorati because of the train/exchange I finally decided to participate in over at Dosh Dosh. Not only did people notice my blog and visit it, but I’ve had a lot of new Technorati favorites now.

I notice that I’ve had more visitors, too. And all from spending some of my weekend checking out other blogs on similar topics as mine, and dropping a couple comments here and there. Now besides having more visitors, comments, Technorati favorites, etc., I’ve also had a few people tell me they’re going to link to me on their blogs because they like mine so much.

Do I regret not establishing relationships with fellow bloggers sooner? Yes, I do! I think if you’re going to be a successful blogger with people actually visiting your site, you’ve got to spend some time crafting relationships with other blogmasters and THEIR visitors (and your own visitors, too)! Even if it’s just spending a minute leaving a comment.

So get out there on people’s blogs. When you leave a comment, try and link to your blog somewhere in it. Nothing like, “Check out my blog!!!” Like I said, when I signed my name I made that my link. And this has brought new visitors into Super Blogging, and helped me more than I could have ever imagined.

That’s why I’ve made establishing relationships rule of blogging number uno. And I might elaborate more on this topic some other time, so keep your eyes peeled!

Rule of blogging number two coming up soon… ;)
