Share Your Blogging Tips and Get a Free Link

August 25, 2007

share your smarts blogging tipsIt’s a Saturday, and I’ve recently decided to make Saturdays days in which I can experiment, ask or provide open knowledge, and give back to readers. Today I have sort of combined all three. I am going to ask you to share one of your favorite blogging tips. It can be one of your own tips, or one you learned somewhere else and highly believe in. Before you comment and leave your one tip, I highly suggest you read all the tips others have left. This way you can learn plenty of new knowledge and also make sure you’re not posting a tip someone else has already mentioned.

So what do you get back?

First off, you’re teaching and helping others with what you know. Second, you automatically get a link to your own site attached to your name in your comment because this blog is DoFollow. THIRD, I will select some of my favorite tips from the bunch and collect them all together in a new post, and I will link once more to the people who submitted those tips.

So what are you waiting for? Share what you know! Leave a comment and share one (and only one) of your favorite blogging tips. I’m leaving this very open. It can be a general tip or very specific. But don’t be shy. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. :)

UPDATE: 3 blogging tips written by YOU. Check out the final results.

    Tay,
My tip is to focus on the value of your blog to your readers, rather than focusing on their value to your (or how much money you can make from them). If you provide a valuable blog for readers, they will become more valuable to you also.

    I actually have two:
    1) Spend time every day add contacts and sites in both MyBlogLog.com and BlogCatalog.net. MyBlogLog limits you to 15 contacts per day, so I usually do 15 per day on each. I try to target members in my target audience and topic along with associated related blogs. This will result in increased exposure and increased traffic.

    2) Do a speed link post of good articles in your topic area each week. My speedlink posts have been some of my most popular. Speedlinking provides value to your readers and increases your visibility to other bloggers.

glblguy: Thanks for sharing your tips!

I definitely agree with number one, joining communities in MyBlogLog. I’ve actually blogged about that twice, here and here. The more communities you’re in, the more exposure you have! :)

    Thanks again.

Use a service such as Pingoat a service which pings or notifies a number of services that keep track of weblogs and publish them. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog has been updated and hence, they crawl and index your site, publishing your blog contents, thus increasing your blog’s popularity and traffic.

That’s a great tip! Using a ping service is something I should try to do more often. Thanks for sharing! :)

For pinging, I use PingOMatic - you can ping almost all the major services.

As for a tip, I’d recommend getting your feed burned with FeedBurner - that way you can see how many subscribers you have. I know that this has probably been said in the past, but it never hurts to say it again. ;)

I think problogger wrote once about how it’s important to link to other bloggers. If you alienate yourself no one is going to be interested in what you write. You need to be part of the blogging community and promote people’s blogs so they’ll do the same.

Backup your blog! I know this is pretty basic, but I’m always super paranoid something is going to happen to my server and my website will be gone! For my WordPress blog, I installed the WordPress Database Backup: http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup and then I FTP all of my pages to my hard drive. I haven’t had to use the backup yet (luckily) but hopefully if the time comes, it will actually work! Otherwise I’ll freak out.

Got something to say?
