4 Posts I Wrote in the Past That I’d Never Write Today

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When I first started blogging, I didn’t know very much. Not very much at all. And to this day, there’s still a lot I don’t know and yes, I will openly admit that. But months ago, when this blog was new and still on Blogspot, I wrote some things that I completely disagree with in today’s time. Opinions change. Here are some of those posts I wrote in the past that I’d never write again today if I could:

  • Earn Money using SlashMySeach - I’d never write this again because SlashMySearch is just such a horrid waste of time. It’s time NOT well spent. You could earn more cash doing other things, and their search engine sucks anyway. Go Google!
  • Feed my Feed - A link train. Yuck. Fake, unreal, cheating links. If you participate in things like this too often, Google will notice, and WILL penalize you. Besides, why mess around with the system? It’s not worth it.
  • I Love the BlogMad.Net Traffic Exchange - Really, I don’t. Maybe months ago, but not anymore. Traffic exchanges are bad, the traffic isn’t targeted, and the visitors don’t stick around. Well, one of mine did. Once. Traffic exchanges create unreal impressions and take up too much valuable time.
  • Results of ViralTags and ViraLink Trains - This is, by far, the worst one. But please do be assured that I’m completely against link trains and the like now. I used to think it wasn’t cheating, but now I wish to take back those words, because I think it is. The links aren’t real, they aren’t valuable, AND they can get you in trouble with Google. Stay away from these things.

Those four are entirely stupid. Of course, there are some other posts with stupid aspects, but not 100% idiotic like those above. I am proud to say, however, that a lot of what I’ve written I still approve of.

If you’re wondering what the point of this post is, it’s that I’m trying to get across the fact we all start out somewhere, and we all improve over time (hopefully). Also over time our opinions and views on certain things can change. There are always going to be mistakes to learn from, but if you act like those mistakes never happened, your blogging will never get better. The road starts out very bumpy, but if you travel down it the right way, it will straighten and flatten out.

Wow, where did that cheesy line come from? Maybe that’ll be another thing I’ll go back and read and smack myself on the head for! :)

    Tay,
Thanks for sharing about your change of heart. I agree, link trains are not for me. I’m sure we’ve all changed our minds on some things from the time we started our blogs.

It’s refreshing to see a blogger change their opinion on something like this.

    Best of luck Tay :)

@Steven - At first I used to be all for them, but then I quite didn’t understand. I was so shocked at all the links I was getting and just thrilled - it was hard for me to imagine link trains being anything but good. Now, I have the complete opposite view about them. Luckily.

    @Kevin - Thanks, and I’m very glad I did. :)

Out of all of those, I’m on BlogMad, but I don’t like it because of the enormous amount of time that I have to invest to get traffic to my blog. That time can better be spent commenting and legitimately visiting people’s blogs.

I think you’re being a little hard on yourself, we’ve all get skeletons in our blogging closet ;-)

If you hate the posts that much, why don’t you either update them, or delete them and 301 the links to your homepage or elsewhere? Might as well make the most of them.

Just don’t look at my archives…..

@Kirsten - You’re right on that one. You have to spend so much time visiting other people’s sites just to get traffic to yours. Instead, you could visit other blogs in your niche, like you said, and that would be much more effective. Best of luck to you!

@Chris - I don’t think I’m being hard on myself. I’m not angry at myself for those posts, I am recognizing my mistakes and that is a good thing. I agree with you when you said we all have skeletons in our blogging closets - I also worded that differently in my post when I said we all mistakes, grow, and learn over time.

I wouldn’t want to delete those old posts or redirect them because they are great examples of how I’ve come along. I’m not ashamed of them; I’ve learned from them. The point of this post is to show we change our views on things but to learn from that.

    Thanks for commenting! :)

I agree. Those blog posts aren’t “the best” I agree with you though on how we learn and grow from our mistakes. Great post.

It’s good that you know when you’ve been wrong and you can admin it as well. Nice and refreshing. And the post is good as well because it is telling us about the things to avoid when trying to build links. All four of these things CAN get you in trouble with Google and most people simply cannot afford to lose that free organic traffic. I know because in the past I was a recipient of an email from Google telling me that they noticed the traffic I was getting from a traffic exchange, they didn’t like it, it was against their TOS and if it continued I would be banned. Needless to say that was the end of traffic exchanges for me.

@Get Paid For Surveys - I agree with you. And that’s great that Google warned you without just banning you first, like they’ve done for some people. Thanks for commenting and happy blogging! :)

Yep. I was surprised they warned me too because you hear so many people that just get banned without any warning or word from Google why. I learned my lesson, but I can tell you an email like that can get your heart pounding :>)

@Get Paid For Surveys - I bet it certainly would! LOL. I’m glad everything turned out okay though. :)
