Do YOU Have A Blog?

November 8, 2007

Typing Hands OnlineRecently I ran a poll on this site asking the question, “Do you have a blog?” I received a generous amount of responses and most of the voters said that yes, they do have a blog. Of course I guessed that a very high percentage of people would pick that choice over “no” and “not yet”, since after all this blog IS about blogging, but I was surprised at just how high that percentage was.

91% of people who voted said that they do have a blog. 4% of voters said that they don’t have a blog at all, and another 5% said that they haven’t made their blog YET. It surprised me that more people didn’t vote that they were going to make a blog but hadn’t yet. I thought that there would be more beginners reading this site, interested in finding out what it takes to have a blog and make money online with it.

I really enjoyed going over the responses and finding out what kind of readers I have on this site. It’s always important to know who you’re writing for exactly so you can do a better job at it. If you haven’t run any polls of the sort on your own blog yet, you might want to try it. There’s an interesting plugin I use called WP-Polls Plugin. It’s very simple to work with and once you starting using it on your site, it will be 100% to your advantage.

For me, running polls is a win-win-win-win! I can learn more about the readers of this site and get feedback to help me out, for one thing. Having a poll within posts or the sidebar also adds a sense of interactivity to a blog and gets the readers interested. And then, once you’re done with the poll, you can write up a post sharing the results! Polls are a lot of fun and can be very, very helpful. Any blogger who has never implemented one on their site is definitely missing on some great opportunities.

Tell me, do YOU have a blog and how do you use polls on it, if you do at all?

I don’t have a Poll on my site yet, but I am very interested in one.

Hmm… What do you use to run your polls, Tay?

I haven’t conducted polls yet, because my traffic and reader levels aren’t quite there yet. But, yeah I’ll be introducing them to my blog after a month I guess…

@Nathan – If you need help installing it let me know. With wordpress it is very simple. About a 5 minute process. I added them to my site this morning. Very easy to use. Thanks for the great post Tay.

I do have a blog and I also have had a poll once. My curiosity with that poll was “How time do you spend blogging?”. But I think in the future I’ll run other polls, too, because it’s funny and like you said, I can find interesting stuff about my readers.

@Micheal – Yes, Thanks for the offer. Just send me the link to the plugin, and I can do the rest.

Keep up the great work Tay

What I scared most about starting a poll is that no one will be voting on it and in the end I might have to “chip in” the polls myself.

This might be that my blog is not in the position to start a poll but I am having the feeling that I am going to start a poll soon. I am just trying to think of what to ask.

I need to start a poll too to understand the readers.

@Nathan – The plugin I use is called WP Plugins. It really does the job!

@Diana – That’s a good topic for a poll. My newest one is, “How long have you been blogging?” I agree with you, polls definitely are entertaining for both parties!

@Wayne – I think everyone has had an experience where they’ve tried out something new and no one has participated. Myself included, several times! But I think you WILL have success with running a poll once you come up with a good question. They’re very fun and quite easy to do. Good luck! :)

I’ve been blogging, technically, since 2004. However, I only became consistent with it since May of 2007.

[…] you been blogging? This was another thing I was interested in discovering about my readers because you need to know who you’re writing for. Should I write mainly for beginners, or can I feel free to cover more advanced topics and define […]

Thanks for the tip. I will implement a poll once my traffic gets higher and more consistent.

Got something to say?
