Passion is definitely the key to long-term blogging. Not only does it keep you productive, it also ensures you keep writing great content that hopefully entertains, educates and inspires.

Very good points. My first biggest problem is to just "start". Just remember that it isn't necessary to have every single bit of information to get started. Besides, it changes so often you couldn't keep up anyway. Keep up the good work!

@Markus,

Having personal reasons is good, and if you have a personal blog then that's a fine way to do things. However, if it's more like a business and you're trying to build a readerbase, that might not be the way to go. You'll lose visitors when they feel like your content is all over the place and your schedule is erratic.
@Troy,

Thank you! Yes, #9 is an important one, but I still believe without choosing a topic you enjoy and being determined etc. there's not much hope. However, if all of the above are put together it's excellent! And I agree on the point of keeping a schedule, posting erratically doesn't do anyone any favors. Thanks for dropping by and for commenting!
Good post, seems like #9 should be first to me, but this is a solid list, especially for newbies. Keeping a schedule is absolutely vital, and I've unsubscribed from many an erratically updated RSS feed.

@The University Kid,

I completely agree with you! I used to never set goals for my blog, and because of that I didn't do as much as I should and I wasn't working toward anything. Now that I have created goals, I strive to keep them.

@NetworkInVegas,

That's definitely one of the biggest advantages of Wordpress, even though I completely take it for granted now. I timestamp almost all of my posts for a certain time of the day, or if I'll be away I schedule them then. I don't know what I'd do without timestamping.

@Working at Home Mom,

That's great - never give up! Good luck with your blogging and all of your ventures. :)
