You can start a completely free blog at Blogspot.com, if this blog isn't going to be too serious and you don't want expenses for it. However, for an easier to remember URL, full customization, etc. you can purchase your own domain at GoDaddy.com and purchase hosting (see the cheap hosting page at the top of this blog). The domain will be about $7 a year, and the hosting will be about $7 a month. It has some costs and maintenance, but in my opinion, your own site is totally the way to go.
