What IS a blog?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is a common question you might possibly have. If you already know what a blog is, you can go ahead and skip over this article. But if you don’t, then this is probably one of the most essential articles to Super Blogging.

There are so many ways to describe blogging, but I will give you the main one that would probably suit the best. Basically, a blog is a type of website that has “posts” or “entries”. These posts are usually aligned chronologically down a page. For example, the newest post at the top, and the oldest one at the bottom. Each post in a blog usually has the date of the day it was written associated with it.

If you still don’t understand (I’m not the best explainer in the world), check out the homepage of this blog. Does it make a bit of sense?

Blogs are normally updated pretty regularly (for some daily, for some a few times a week, etc.) and most of the time they’re ran by just one person (like this one is) but sometimes multiple people can publish to one blog. The act of updating a blog is called “blogging” and a person who blogs is a “blogger”. Making more sense?

Blogs can also have special features such as comments, archives, feeds, and more. Simply put, comments allow other people to leave responses to a blog’s post (not all blogs allow this), archives are the collection of old posts from previous dates, and feeds… We’ll save the details on that for another time. ;)

If it seems like I’m talking in a whole different language, well, it might take some catching onto. But if you hang around Super Blogging, you’ll gather plenty of information and soon be able to start your own blog!
